Artist's Statement

Weaving is an incredible art form. Weaving grounds me. I find if I have had a very difficult day, I can sit down at my loom and weave; and, after a short time, feel totally relaxed and at one with the world – ready to handle whatever might come my way. I enjoy watching the cloth grow and develop as I throw the shuttle one pick at a time. I love watching what happens as you combine color, structure, size and type of thread – it never turns out quite as you expect it to. Interestingly, very often the piece on my loom which seems to be the “ugliest” turns out to be the most spectacular piece after it’s finished. Weaving is challenging, never boring, and always satisfying.

I also derive a deep sense of pleasure in teaching beginning weavers. It is so much fun watching new weavers progress from total incomprehension of how a loom works and how to set up their class loom through their excitement at seeing their final project come off the loom at the end of the class. To share my love of weaving and to be able to encourage and mentor others in their weaving life is immensely satisfying and fulfilling.
